In Memoriam: Deacon Jerry M. Opperman

Deacon Jerry Michael Opperman 


Feb 11, 1943 – Apr 30, 2018

Jerry Opperman was employed at St. Peter Catholic Student Center as Development Director under the direction of Father James Deaconson and Father Anthony Odiong from 2004 until 2008. Jerry was ordained to the deaconate during Fr. Anthony’s tenure.

Jerry Opperman was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus College Council #13577 at St. Peter’s. He served that council as Financial Secretary from its origin in 2004 until August 2010.

In addition to his duties as a member of the staff of St. Peter’s, Jerry conducted marriage preparation classes at the center. Jerry was active in Prison Ministry at the McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility at Mart, TX until his death.

This fall, the “Giving Tree” in the Narthex of St. Peter’s will bear a leaf in memory of Deacon Jerry.

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

    So many years went by and yet so many years of memories continue to stay with me. You are in the most peaceful, beautiful, and I’ll bet the most musically place in the universe- heaven.
