Introducing the New FOCUS Missionary Team at Baylor!

Hello! We are excited to introduce the new FOCUS team at Baylor University!  Our team consists of Jessica, Madelynn, Kelsie & Marcus. We have all graduated recently from different universities and are serving as full time missionaries for St. Peter’s Catholic Center. For those of you who have never heard of FOCUS, the acronym stands for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. The mission of FOCUS is to fulfill the “Great Commission” found in Matthew 28:19-20 where Jesus says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  We execute the Great Commission by inviting college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Through Bible studies, discipleship, and large group events, we strive to inspire and equip the students to become life- long Catholic missionaries.

As we were praying and reflecting in our preparation to come to campus, the Lord placed a few things on our hearts.  In John’s Gospel, Chapter 17, Jesus prays for the unity of the Church as he prays “for those who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one…”  We are so blessed to have the opportunity to be placed at the largest Baptist University in the world and to help bring Jesus’ prayer into reality.  In order to do this we have enlisted the help of some patron saints.  In particular, one of the patron saints we are asking to pray for us is St. John the Baptist.  In the scriptures John the Baptist plays the role of the precursor of Christ, his job was to “prepare the way” for Jesus and the New Covenant.  We see this as our job here at Baylor, to prepare the way for Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Trinity in the hearts of the young people here at Baylor.  Once Jesus is given room, He will take over and transform the hearts of the students here!

One final thought comes from a quote from St. Jose Maria Escriva.  He says in The Way, “That burning desire to win fellow apostles is a sure sign that you have really ‘given yourself’ to God.”  Our goal as missionaries is to have the students here encounter Christ in such a profound way that they have no choice but to go out to their fellow students and proclaim Jesus Christ and His Church, and win fellow apostles here at Baylor, and St. Peter’s Catholic Center.

We are so excited to be here and to watch as God works in the hearts of the men and women at St. Peter’s!  Please pray for us as we begin this magnificent journey!
